Special Planning Performance of “Par-il” Dance

The Korea Cultural House, KOUS, is hosting an outdoor performance of the “Par-il (8 days)” Dance in the Junghwajeon of Deoksugung Palace on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 6pm to promote the beauty of traditional dance to the general public. “Par-il” was a dance carried out during religious services, such as before a Confucian shrine, an ancestral shrine of the royal family, and the temple of heaven altar during the Joseon Dynasty. It was traditionally performed by 64 dancers in eight rows of eight dancing to the court music. A total of 64 dancers including eight experts in Korean traditional dance and 56 young dancers will perform in front of the Junghwajeon. The dance will begin with eight dancers lighting the incense burner in the Junghwajeon. Afterwards, other unique dances will also be performed by experts in Salpuri Dance, Milyang Drum Dance, Hanryung Dance, Kyobang Dance, Monk Dance, Taepyeong Dance, Dosalpuri Dance, and the Chaesang Sogo Dance.
